Richard Bloodworth's passion for opera was kindled in his student days when he became assistant conductor to David Atherton working on a student production of Berlioz' Beatrice and Benedict. During a period as Head of Music and Drama in a Leeds comprehensive school he served as accompanist for Leeds Youth Opera and musical director of Bradford Opera Group, combining this with major contributions to the work of Bradford Playhouse as both a musical and stage director. During his tenure as musical director of Northern Opera Richard worked with professional stage directors and singers in productions of Carmen, The Pearl Fishers, Macbeth, A Masked Ball, Nabucco, La Traviata, Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci. Work with choirs has also played a large part in his musical life and he is currently musical director of Darlington Choral Society. A retired comprehensive school head teacher, he now has a new and very busy career as an IT consultant in the education sector.
