Opera Nova based in the Tees Valley in the North East of England performs opera music at a variety of venues throughout the region.

The highly successful 2017 season which was enjoyed by the company and audiences alike, featured semi-staged performances of Carmen (Bizet) and Cosi Fan Tutte (Mozart). The group also joined Darlington Choral Society with the Mowbray Orchestra and guest soloists for the Verdi Requiem.

The end of season performance of Carmen in Guisborough was particularly well received. See News for comments made. Organiser Councillor Andy Murray said:

Everyone is taking about Carmen. It entertained and educated. It made people think. There were nearly 200 people in the audience. Ticket money amounted to £1862. Guisborough Town Council have donated £600 to The Bridge, a Guisborough Charity which supports senior citizens, providing for example, Chistmas dinner. A donation of this sze provides a very valuable injection of funds at this time of year. The fact that the donation comes from an opera company gives it a special dimension.

Musical director Richard Bloodworth is now rehearsing the 2018 programme "Nearest and Dearest" which will feature music from opera, musical theatre and film with a family theme.

Opera Nova provides a forum for operatic soloists and chorus to develop their abilities and new members are always welcome.

Rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings at Holy Trinity with Saint Mark Church, Stockton-on-Tees map
