Robert Stevenson grew up in Billingham and remembers attending an Opera Nova production as a teenager! A flautist in the Cleveland Youth Orchestra, he also studied singing in Birmingham, Wiesbaden and Munich. Principally a recitalist specialising in German Lieder, his operatic roles include Osmin (Seraglio), Cabriolo (Princess of Trapenzunt) and Sir Joseph Porter (HMS Pinafore). He sang in the extra chorus of the State Theatre of the Rhineland-Palatinate and sustains a committed amateur choral career alongside his solo work.
