Opera Nova based in the Tees Valley in the North East of England performs concerts at a variety venues throughout the year and mounts a full opera production annually at Middlesbrough Theatre. In 2007 we presented our concert series "All Aboard The Orient Express", a musical journey across Europe followed by a full production of Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus.
The society was founded by John Morton and Iris Lemare in the mid 1960s. In its first years the Company produced a number of 20th century operatic works initially at Middlesbrough Theatre.
Over time the repertoire has expanded and changed and in recent years has included an Evening of Viennese Operetta, An American Evening, An Evening of English Theatre Music and From Vienna to Broadway. In 2006 the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth was celebrated with a series of concerts and a production of Mozart's opera the Magic Flute.
