Opera Nova based in the Tees Valley in the North East of England performs concerts at a variety of venues throughout the year and periodically mounts fully staged, costumed opera productions.
Our 2010 concert series "Love, Sex and Death" will include semi-staged performances from Verdi's Macbeth, Bizet's Carmen and Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.
The society was founded by John Morton and Iris Lemare in the mid 1960s. In its first years the Company produced a number of 20th century operatic works initially at Middlesbrough Theatre.
Over time the repertoire has expanded and changed. Last year's concert series "Opera Nova Goes To The Movies" featured music familiar from film and tv. Themes of previous years have included "On Reflection" featuring some old favourites and "All Aboard The Orient Express", a musical journey across Europe.
Our most recent full production was Die Fledermaus performed at Middlesbrough Theatre. In 2006 the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth was celebrated with a series of concerts and a production of Mozart's opera the Magic Flute.
President: Sir Thomas Allen
Vice Presidents: Suzannah Clarke & Dari Taylor MP
